Three Fields. One Vision.
One Mission: Pollution Source Localization
------ My Story
Three Fields, One Vision
OctoFl'r was born from the convergence of three complementary disciplines: environmental engineering, digital design and manufacturing, and machine learning. By combining real-world experience in environmental investigations with advanced 3D modelling, rapid prototyping and artificial intelligence, FLR-X developed an embedded autonomous system for pollution source localization, integrated into the OctoFl'r autonomous surface drone. Designed to continuously analyze environmental observations and guide data acquisition, the system helps improve the efficiency of environmental investigations and accelerate the identification of potential contamination sources.
------ From Concept to Prototype
Designed, Built and Tested In-House
Every stage of OctoFlr's development has been driven by an iterative engineering approach. The drone was first designed as a complete 3D digital model before being progressively transformed into a functional prototype through extensive testing and refinement. Custom sensor housings, electronic enclosures and structural components were developed using additive manufacturing technologies, allowing rapid design iterations and continuous improvement.
------ From Research Concept to Recognized Innovation
Recognition & Innovation
Innovation is at the heart of FLR-X. The embedded autonomous system developed for pollution source localization is protected by a patent application and represents the core intelligence behind OctoFl'r. This innovative approach was recognized in 2025 when the project was selected as a finalist in the Octopousse innovation competition, organized by Ifremer, highlighting its potential contribution to the future of environmental monitoring and pollution investigation.
------ From Field Experience to Autonomous Solutions
Designed for Real Environmental Challenges
The development of OctoFl'r was inspired by real-world environmental monitoring challenges. By combining field investigation experience with robotics and intelligent sensing technologies, FLR-X aims to provide practical tools that help better understand water quality conditions and support pollution source investigations.
------ Field Validation & Pilot Projects
Every field trial brings OctoFl'r one step closer to becoming a fully validated solution for autonomous pollution source localization.
FLR-X is actively seeking pilot projects and environmental test sites to support the next stage of OctoFlr's development. Real-world deployments will provide valuable data for evaluating performance, refining autonomous behaviors and increasing confidence in pollution source localization capabilities across a variety of aquatic environments.
